SpectraLink wireless phones are a supported device on the Evolve IP network. Thus, documentation, provisioning and support procedures are provided to Evolve IP customers and partners. Provisioning is automated and the device type and support is available via OSSmosis.
Devices Supported
The SpectraLink solution is DECT. A wireless server, sometimes called a base station, is installed on the customer's voice VLAN and registers back to the Evolve IP network. All SIP communication is between the EIP network and wireless server. The wireless server communicates to all the wireless handsets for service.
Wireless Server: SpectraLink 400
Handsets: SpectraLink Butterfly, 7420, 7520, 7620, and 7720
OSSmosis Configuration Steps
All equipment should be assigned at this point to the customer account. Note the MAC address of the wireless server and the IPEI addresses of the handsets.
In addition, you should understand whether you're building these profiles as Common Area, Standard, Premium, or a Shared Call Appearance of a Premium user.
- Login to OSSmosis
- Build the users that will given the wireless handsets. Select the Device Type as Unconfigured Polycom KIRK device.
- If the profile is built as a Shared Call Appearance, additional steps for the SCA profile may be needed in Broadworks directly.
Now that the users are built and ready in OSSmosis, we need to build the configuration file for the wireless server, which is handled in another location of OSSmosis.
Here are all 3 Evolve IP Platform Links

- Choose the account to build your wireless server
- Select View Account Groups
- Select View Unconfigured /Configured KIRK Devices for the correct location
- Enter the IPEI code of the handset next to the profile you built using the steps above
- NOTE: This should be exactly 12 digits. If there is a 13th digit, discard the last digit. (Example: 05003 0257999)
- Click Save / Continue
- You will notice on the left a section for Users Not Assigned to a configured Base unit
- Click Add base Unit
- Enter the MAC address of the wireless server, enter the VLAN, and select the model of the wireless server
- Drag and drop any Users Not Assigned on the left to the box under the wireless server
- Click Save Assignment Changes
Your wireless server configuration is now ready on the TFTP server.
Connecting, Installing and Testing the Wireless Solution
Wireless Server
- Plug the wireless server into a flat network that has an Edgemarc pointing to the Evolve TFTP server where the config is located.
- The wireless server will now download its configuration and be ready for deployment when the green light is steady. This takes about 5-7 minutes.
- Install the wireless server on the network designed for deployment that matches the VLAN setting you added into the OSSmosis config.
- You can plug the wireless server directly into your switch in the data room OR at a jack near your work space if it's connected to your switch already.
- See diagram below for wireless server installation
Wireless Handsets
You are now ready to pair the handset to the wireless server using the steps below. This is needed or the phone will not work yet.
- Press the Menu button. Select the Settings option.
- Select the Advanced option.
- Select the Login option. Select the Create Login option.
- The phone will display Searching at the top of the screen.
- When an alpha-numeric number displays, press Select
- The phone will ask for a number, Press the OK button. Wait for a Green checkmark.
- The phone should now be connected to the wireless server; press the back button to return to the home screen. Please place a test call to an internal extension. Next, place a test call to an external phone number.
You have completed a successful configuration of a wireless server and handset! Report back to Evolve IP and the customer contact(s) the status of the test program. Evolve IP thanks you for your support.
