Before a client device can be backed up in Avamar, it must have the agent installed on the target machine and it must be activated for it to communicate with the Avamar grid.

Step-by-step guide

Installing and Activating the Avamar Client

  1. Download and Install the following application to the client:

During the installation process, please keep all options at default. If a previous version of EMC Avamar is running on this machine, please uninstall prior to installing the version provided in the link above.

  2. Open the system tray, locate the Avamar icon and right click the icon. Go to Manage > Activate Client. Enter the following in their appropriate fields:

    Server Address: reflection.evolveip.net

Client Domain: ClientDomain/ (this information can be found in the Avamar Admin Console)

  3. Pending on the client, some servers may require a plugin, servers such as Exchange and SQL would be examples of clients requiring a plugin. Plugin installers can be found here:https://reflection.evolveip.net/dtlt/home.html#downloads

Always install plugins after the client has been installed, when uninstalling, remove the plugin first.

Just like the client install, if this machine has a previous plugin installed, please uninstall the older client before installing the client provided in the link above. Please keep all options at default during install.

For Exchange Plugins, please follow this tutorial; X Avamar 7.2 - Setup for Exchange VSS Backups
