Most of these models have varying configuration files and you must be aware of the model number in order to create the correct configuration file. Be aware some clients have more than one model of Cisco phones.
Cisco Phone configurations would be generated via TFTPTOOLKIT unless the model of phone is older. If an older device, the configuration may required access to tftp01 for build and modifications.
- Cisco phone models 7940, 7960, 7941, & 7961, 7942/62 and 7945/65 all require the file name containing the MAC address to have capitalized characters. (001E13E5F945)
- Cisco phone models 7940, 7960, 7941, & 7961, and 7945/6 all require a copy of the file to reside in the tftpboot directory. You must copy the main file in the client directory to the tftpboot directory.
- Cisco/Linksys SPA phones (all models) do not require a copy of the file in the tftpboot directory. This is because these phones can be configured to communicate with the appropriate client directory.
Edgewaters supporting Cisco 7900 series phones MUST have Option 150 set to 208.89.20.163.
In some cases, Cisco 7900 series phones may require the tftp server to be manually assigned on the phone.
Cisco/Linksys SPA phones will need to have the appropriate urls entered via the phone's web gui (see screenshot below) in order to instruct the phone on where and what to pull for configuration. The web gui is accessible when proxied through the Edgewater. (reference: PuTTY: How to use PuTTY to Proxy inside of LAN via SSH) There are 2 urls required for these phones. An example of the urls to be entered is tftp://tftp.voip.evolveip.net/0001009299/503DE50F084A.xml & tftp://tftp.voip.evolveip.net/0001009299/spa525system.xml.
