Dear DaaS User,
The Microsoft Windows Operating System contains a plethora of shortcuts and handy features to make your live easier and your work more productive. Whether you're new to the Windows world or a seasoned PC veteran, these quick tips can shave a lot of time off applications tasks.
Shift-click
The Shift-click is a quick way to select multiple files that are continuous. To use this technique, click on the first file in the list you want to select. Then hold the Shift key on the keyboard while clicking on the last file you want to select. All files in between will be selected.
CTRL-click
The CTRL-click method also helps select multiple files, but ones that are non-continuous. Click on any files you want to select while holding the CTRL key on the keyboard. Each file you click on will be selected.
Using Tab
Most people know that tab helps indent new paragraphs. But it's also a handy way to move through programs that have data fields very quickly. The next time you're in a program that has fields for entering data (i.e. a website or PDF form), try clicking Tab instead of using the mouse and see what happens.
CTRL Drag-and-Drop
You've probably copied and pasted files to create duplicates. An even faster approach is the CTRL drag-and-drop method. Click on a file and as you start dragging it, click and hold the CTRL key on the keyboard. The cursor will change to a plus to indicate a copy will be made. Let go of the mouse button and then the CTRL key and you'll see a duplicate file.
ALT Drag-and-Drop
ALT drag-and-drop is used to create shortcuts quickly. Need a quick link to an important folder or file on your desktop? Click and drag the file onto the desktop while holding the ALT key on the keyboard. The cursor will change to a create link sign to indicate a shortcut will be made. Let go of the mouse button and then the ALT key and you'll see a shortcut to the folder or file.
These are just a few of the many time-saving shortcuts. Stay tuned for more helpful Evolve DaaS tips.
